1) Assess patients perception of appearance, by asking how they are feeling and using therapeutic communication to listen and support the patient in telling you how they feel
2) Teach patient methods to improve appearance/reduce exacerbations (reduce stress, reduce sun exposure, proper hygiene)
3) Encourage support from family and friends
4) Assess and note any changes in self-esteem
5) Educate family and friends on ways to help reduce exacerbations (ie: reducing stress)
6) Encourage patient to continue doing activities they enjoy
