Etiology:
HIV is a disease that affects your immune system. HIV affects your immune system by killing crucial immune system cells like T-helper cells. T-helper cells fight off infected cells that enter your body. Without T-helper cells your body is unable to fight off infections and your immune system is weakened. When your immune system is weakened you can develop HIV through the following ways of transmission: Unprotected sex, vaginal secretions, semen, blood, used needles and infected milk from Mother to baby.
AIDS is what happens when the body becomes fully affected by HIV it is no longer known as a virus, but now known as a medical condition. This happens when HIV goes untreated, therefore if undiagnosed it becomes worse instead of better.
Clinical Manifestation:
- Extreme sweating
- Weight loss
- Diarrhea
- Fever
- Weakness
- Abdominal pain
- Chills
- Coughing
- Trouble breathing
- Headaches
- Muscle or joint pain
- Oral lesions (wounds of the mouth)
- Swollen and enlarged lymph nodes
